Augustus Bryan
Auggie's Eagle Project: Honor in Action
His name is Augustus "Auggie" Bryan. His Eagle Scout project, involves three large phases of infrastructure improvement at Woodland Cemetery in Richmond, VA. Auggie initiated the important work of creating a dedicated veteran's memorial out of nearly 80 veterans headstones unplaced in a pile onsite at Woodland Cemetery.
With the assistance and blessing of The Woodland Restoration Foundation Auggie began enlisting various military entities to put a plan into action. The Woodland Restoration Foundation has been clearing land and cataloging the thousands of plots for years. But it was Auggie's humble and respectful approach that enhanced Woodland's goal of restoration. His goal of honoring these veterans goes hand in hand with the community's desire to see these sacred grounds get the respect it deserves. It was Auggie's honest and sincere approach that exemplifies the spirit of cooperation needed to honor the veterans and their families.
On December 10th a the paving tof a memorial fountain with bricks, and the rebuilding and beautification of over 400’ of existing, dilapidated walkways begins.

Woodland Cemetery
Woodland Restoration Foundation was formed in 2020 by local businessman Marvin Harris to acquire and restore Historic Woodland Cemetery in partnership with descendant families, community volunteers, and leaders from the Greater Richmond region. Since acquiring the cemetery, the Foundation has raised thousands of dollars toward the restoration effort. We hope you will join us in our work to restore dignity to this sacred and historic site.

"..Every Stone is a Life"
Thanks to John Shuck and a host of volunteers hundreds of records and photos have been collected. These documents are essential to locating burial plots and filling in the hidden history of our community.

The collection will grow over time. But you can access an online spreadsheet of markers that will populate The Veterans Memorial Garden at Woodland.
